The Single Lane Superhighway

by Independent Staff

Warning: nerds alert! The content of this post is highly nerdy and should be treated with extreme care if you think checking your email is the highest point of your online expertise.

Otherwise, if you love the weirdest, most bizarre, funny and – well, ok – useless web treasures, you’ll be delighted to spend a good chunk of your lunch or coffee breaks on a site called The Single Lane Superhighway.

This is the official description of the site: “For over 30 years, Progressive [note: an insurance company] has commissioned artists or used original artworks to interpret annual report themes important to the company’s values. For 2011, Progressive commissioned artist Aaron Koblin to help with this interpretation. In turn, Koblin has asked you to contribute to the artwork by creating your own car on The Single Lane Superhighway, which will reflect the personal bond people have with their automobiles“. In other words, on The Single Lane Superhighway you can draw (using a simple interface that allows you to draw moving the mouse) cars according to your fantasy and you have no boundaries… your cars can be anything: funny, unusual, nonsense, futuristic, retro, fantastic…

Enjoy watching the cars others have submitted and – of course – draw yours: here.
