The Jesus And Mary Chain are among the most important and fundamental bands of the Eighties psychedelic revival; they pioneered the indie rock/indie pop sound injecting it with acid mood and melodies drowned in guitars’ feedback. An original sound that has been baptised “feedback pop” and today is still unbeaten for its personality and attitude.
Their immortal recipe is as simple as it gets: mix the Velvet Underground‘s (White Light White Heat period), add super-catchy bubblegum pop melodies, borrow Phil Spector‘s “wall of sound” production and add a layer of burning guitar noise on top. All with punk attitude.
Now the history of this seminal band (still active, by the way), has been captured in a new 114-page coffee table book featuring tons of rare photos (many never-before-seen), by Andrew Catlin – with and text parts by the band’s singer Jim Reid and his wife Julie.
