Dust are an Italian pop-rock band, formed in Milan in 2005 and working on a peculiar mixture of multi-faceted musical influences (from new-wave to classic rock ‘n roll, from indie-rock to pure pop) that meet with naturalness in straightforward songs, written in English.
After a handful of demo recordings and live appearances, the band started widening its horizons with the self-produced album Tuesday Evenings (2009), a melting pot of varied influences that never forgets its love for blues, but also refuses to limit itself and tries to gaze into the distance.
Epic, at times dark and thick in the dialogue between the organ, played by Tomas Tai, and the guitars of Riccardo Carissimi and Andrea Giambelli, Dust seem to have found a compromise between the pop/wave gradations of Cocaine Dogs and Attitude (that takes us straight to the lesson of The Smiths) and an enthralling, shady dark sound that emerges unfriendly in To Stay and OMC, somewhere between Nick Cave and indie-rock, writes Fabio Cerbone on Rootshighway.it, stressing a combination between American rock and British mood that can also be noticed in visionary and dreamlike lyrics.
Between the end of 2009 and 2011, Dust becomes something more than a mere adolescent dream: they share the stage with Enrico Gabrielli, The Filmmakers and The Black Atlantic at Tambourine (Seregno), play with Claudia Is On The Sofa at La Casa 139 and The Niro at Fabrik Free Festival, and fill the audience of El Paso (Bellinzona) with enthusiasm during an unforgettable three-hour concert. The potent live at Magnolia in February, 2011 precedes the recording sessions of the band’s first labeled work: Kind.
The EP came out on 24th January, but its songs were already introduced during the electric and acoustic performances at Carroponte (Sesto San Giovanni), the memorable Italian club Le Scimmie and La Scighera (Milano), opening for Green Like July.
