by Independent Staff

New songs, new bands for you. Directly from the Web, from the Independent People staff. Our new journey starts from an English town, famous for his university but also for a band called Radiohead. We go on with an English shiny talent and we arrive in the US, to finally come back in Albion. Fasten your seatbelt.

Radiohead: Every step of the Oxford band is something big for the music industry. And so it is The Daily Mail/Staircase, the single released on December 19. The two new songs come from the Live From The Basement performance that followed up the release of The King Of Limbs. Here you can listen to the first track, “The Daily Mail”.

James Blake: He’s the brightest star of the new dubstep (or post-dubstep?) scene. His debut record is one of the highlights of 2011. Now James Blake is back with this EP, Love What Happened Here. Mostly instrumental and experimental, the record confirms his natural gift for music and his talent as a producer.

Wu Lyf: Wu Lyf stands for “World Unite Lucifer Youth Foundation”. The band comes from Manchester and started his career in semi-anonymity, refusing to concess any interview to the media. Now they’re out of their hole and they’re starting their first nationwide tour. So people will able to see them, finally. And listen to their great music, of course.

Israel Nash Gripka: This record, Barn Doors And Concrete Floors, sounds as if it was recorded in the 1970s. It’s full of the rock-blues tradition of The Band, The Creedence and The Rolling Stones. If you need a more contemporary name, we can give you Ryan Adams. Nostalgic, but cool.

Patrick Wolf: You can consider Brumalia a Christmas gift from Patrick Wolf. His new 7-track EP is dedicated to an ancient Roman festivity. This release follows up the one for the record Lupercalia. Intriguing songs, halfway between alt-pop and electronica: this is Patrick Wolf.
