From Devo to design

by Independent Staff

Mark Mothersbaugh‘s name, for most music fans, brings to mind the greatness of Akron’s finest: Devo.
Devo is one of the most important bands of the last four decades, having released 20 albums between 1978 and 2010, spreading the word of synth punk, deconstructed rock’n'roll and sci-fi pop. They’re still active, performing live sporadically and keeping high the reputation of their brand.

But Mothersbaugh has always been a creative and busy man. Since the mid Eighties he’s written themes for famous tv shows and he’s founded a company (Mutato Muzika) providing music, scores and themes to blockbuster movies, tv programs, kids’ shows and commercials.
Besides this, he’s also an appreciated visual artist with a passion for pop design. He started back in the late Sixties and never stopped drawing, painting and creating. His latest effort is a series of rugs and wallpapers with crazy drawings: from cartoon-like characters, to pulp comics scenes, to vintage photographs modified and mutated. Really funny, deviant, pop and bizarre stuff, in the truest Devo tradition.
