Lev Anderson and Chris Metzler’s rockumentary on the career of Fishbone – the black LA punk/funk/ska/soul band that crossed genres, smashed racial boundaries, but missed fame and success – premiered on October 7, opening for a one-week run as the latest in a string of music documentary bookings at Brooklyn’s reRun Gastropub Theatre.
Narrated by Laurence Fishburne and featuring lots musical footage, Everyday Sunshine also exposes every bit of Fishbone’s history – even the darkest intra-band drama (one member was charged with kidnapping another after a cult intervention went wrong) and the tension between frontman Angelo Moore and bassist Norwood Fisher, the only members who’ve been with the band throughout its 30-plus years.
