Bon Iver, the indie folk USA band founded by folk singer Justin Vernon, are among the most revered and considered ensembles of the alternative scene. With two full length albums (For Emma, Forever Ago released in 2008 and a self titled one released in 2011) and a bunch of singles, they have acquired an iconic status.
But Mr Vernon is one of those persons who must keep busy and doing lots of different things. Indeed he revealed he has a bunch of projects in his mind, all not related to Bon Iver. Among other things, he’s planning to record with his other groups Shouting Matches and Volcano Choir, and was also a collaboration with Alicia Keys. “I have a big idea to do an American songbook of the greatest women singers,” he said. “There are so many: Casey (Dienel) from White Hinterland, Bonnie Raitt, Alicia“.
This could lead, inevitably, to a pause for Bon Iver and Vernon told it pretty clearly, when he was asked by USA today about the next Bon Iver release: “I don’t have any songs written yet. I’m guessing three years. But it could be five. It could be only one more. It just depends when the songs come about. I sort of have to wait till they reveal themselves“.
In the meantime he is also working on a new record label called Chigliak Records (which will release “lost” albums and new music) and he’s been featured in a fitness/workout dvd called On The Road. Because, as we said, he has to keep himself busy, busy, busy…
