Bands to watch: Dead Sara

by Independent Staff

Los Angeles, California, is still the epicentre of alternative rock – despite the passing of time and the decline of alt rock’s pristine excitement. Bands like Dead Sara are proof that the flame is still burning: just a quick listen to their self titled debut album will convince even the hardest critiques.

Dead Sara have it all, being fronted by a dynamite duo of rocking girls – singer/rhythm guitarist Emily Armstrong and lead guitarist Siouxsie Medley – leading the whole ensemble into a hurricane of infectious rock, punk, blues, metal and power pop.

It’s hard to pick a song from the album, given the extreme variety and the kaleidoscopic sound; let’s say Dead Sara showcases their influences rooted in many of the sounds of the last thirty years, from punk and 80’s metal to 90’s alternative, modern blues, and indie rock, and seamlessly blends those genres into a single, distinct vision of modern rock. And “modern rock” is probably the most fitting label to describe them.

Catch them before they become huge. And even if they happened to disappear without “making it”, they’ll remain among the heroes of alt rock of the new millennium.
