Irina Werning is a photographer based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Among her projects, one of the most notable is called Back to The Future; the concept revolves around old photographs… she takes someone’s old photo and recreates the same scene, but with the person as he or she looks nowadays.
The extreme accuracy and study of details is impressive: the location, clothes, objects and accessories match almost 100%; but she’s also really skilled in matching the look and feel of the original photograph – lighting, especially.
Werning describes her project with these words: “I love old photos. I admit being a nosey photographer. As soon as I step into someone else’s house, I start sniffing for them. Most of us are fascinated by their retro look but to me, it’s imagining how people would feel and look like if they were to reenact them today… A few months ago, I decided to actually do this. So, with my camera, I started inviting people to go back to their future“.
To date she has shot two different series: Back To The Future (2010) and Back To The Future 2 (2011).
Enjoy the trip in the time machine…
